Initially, I had a hard time adjusting to teaching Kindergarten from Grade 7. Finding the age-appropriate lessons and more importantly ability level appropriate took time. Teachers need to consider mental-age or maturity level when designing lessons. For Kindergarten class especially, students might still have a preschool maturity level of thinking in spite of their age. Moreover, thanks to COVID, even students in the later grades can lack the necessary foundational skills as I witnessed in past practicum Grade 7 class.
